The lockdown project transformed part of the garden near the house. A Tai-haku cherry and some nice shrubs were hidden in an enclosed area with dense planting. Phil Hirst produced a beautiful design for a Japanese-themed garden which opened out the views of Bradwell Edge and the Hope Valley. It was almost impossible to get a garden contractor – they were too busy with everyone else’s lockdown project – so I eventually persuaded an old friend, Noel White, to come out of retirement and turn the plan into reality.
